The two Medicaid programs are not the same

Assisted Living Waiver

Part of Florida's managed long-term care program. It can cover the cost of care in the facility for an eligible resident. This is what most families mean when they ask if a home "takes Medicaid." 410 homes statewide.

Assistive Care Services

Covers personal care services only. The resident still pays room and board, usually from Social Security plus the state's Optional State Supplementation. 1,531 additional homes offer this without holding the waiver.

Holding the waiver does not guarantee an open waiver bed today. Eligibility runs through the Department of Elder Affairs and your managed care plan. Call the Elder Helpline at 1-800-96-ELDER to start.
